Why do we need airtightness testing? The BC Energy Step Code has made it a performance requirement but more importantly the airtightness of a home impacts the buildings ability to meet the other BC Energy Step Code metrics and is key to an energy efficient home.
Blower door tests or airtightness tests are completed at 2 different construction phases.
Mid-Construction Test: These tests are not required by code however some municipalities have made it mandatory and additional rebate money is available.
Final Test: These tests are required for all new construction projects that are using the performance pathway. The final blower door test results must meet the targeted ACH number for the building to obtain occupancy.
